Imperial Leadership

  • The Asa-Emperor: Emperor of the Æsir. Currently Dane the Proud. He oversees the actives of any platoon, division or Legion. His word is both final and law.

  • The Huskarls: The Emperor has two guard units to protect him and help him govern the Empire, collectively the are known as the Huskarls. The Varangian Guard and the Praetorian Guard. They are made up of the most loyal and dedicated members, chosen from only the most prestigious families.

  • The Shield-Arm (1) is the leader of the Varangian Guard. His chief concern is maintaniing the stability of the Empire. Defender of its laws, culture and integrity.

  • The Sword-Arm (1) is the leader of the Praetorian Guard. His chief concern is the expansion of the Empire. Fighting always to see it grow and gain strength and territory.

  • Admiral (1 per Imperial Legion): Each Imperial Legion is led by a single Legate. An veteran WA officer and experienced leader. The Legates duty is to make sure the divisions and platoons within his Legion are being managed well and that there is reliable division leadership. The Legate tries to ensure his Captains can manage their divisions on their own, reporting to him once a month. He works directly and behind the scenes when a division needs assistance in leadership or policies, and his duty is to directly aid his Legion whenever the need arises. After the Captains of each division report to him, the Legate submits a monthly report to the Huskarls.

The Nobility

Within WA there a few ranks of Nobility, based upon ability, dedication and heritage. These ranks can simply be considered titles that members hold while they also hold an Legion Rank. Or these ranks can be their only rank when they exist outside of any Legion.

Lord (1 per House): The Lord is the leader of one of WA's great Houses. Generally either the founding member of a House, or an important and proven heir of that founding Lord. They have the ultimate say over how their House is ran and have an extremely high level of prestige in WA. Because of this the House Lord's rank is equivalent to that of a Captain.

Duke (1 per Minor House): The Duke is the Leader of a Minor House. A rare occurrence in WA, a Minor House is formed when a family/earldom become so well established that they begin to form branches of their own. Or if a clan outside of WA is merged into the Empire. In the latter case the Duke would be the leader of that absorbed Clan, in the former case the Duke would be the former Earl of the family. The Duke's rank is equivalent to a Commanders.

Earl (1 per Family): The Earl is the leader of a Family, or Earldom. Generally the oldest member of a specific branch of a House. They are the primary overseers of their family, and often times a families health can be directly related to the vigilance of it's Earl. The Earl has the equivalent rank of a Lieutenant.

Each of the Great Houses in WA have their own Order of Knights, that all go by different names. The Knights of House Dane are known as 'Rangers', the Knights of Dippity as 'White Knights, the Knights of Cammander "Alpha Pack" and the Knights of House Kilroy as "MechWarriors". Furthermore all Earls, Dukes and Lords also double as Knights. A Knight, alone, is equivalent to a Hersir.

Knight (Unlimited): A Knight is a proven and dedicated member of a House/Family. They have learned the history of their linage and have proven that it matters to them. They have been members of WA for at least 6 months and take WA more seriously than normal members. A Knight is a special sort of member in WA, supposed to be more chivalrous, more loyal and more focused on their House and WA than their non-knighted peers. A Knight also has the special and distinct ability to form a TRIBE. A tribe exists outside of WA's Legion system, and is primarily administered by the Knight and House. A tribe is sort of a micro-platoon. Made up a the Knight and two retainers(Thanes) and their Tribes recruits, known as Freedmen. It is hoped that eventually a Tribe become larger enough and stable enough to apply for Legion status.

Thane (Unlimited): A Thane is a non-Knighted member of a House, who consents to be a part of a Knights Tribe. They are full members, not freemand, and represent the logistic support for a Knight in his effort to create a Tribe. A Tribe is only allowed to have up to two non-knighted members in it, these being the Thanes. Any other non-knighted member who wishes to assist the Tribe must still be part of an Imperial Legion. The Rank is roughly equivalent to the rank Centurion.

Freeman (Unlimited): A Freeman is not an official member of the Empire, although they are an official member of the House. They are not fully civilized or accelerated members of the tiny micro-platoon entities known as Tribes. As they become more organized and 'WA-ized' their Tribe will either be officially made a 'rough platoon' in an Legion (Which makes them official members) or they can individually apply for full WA membership on the forums. The Freeman rank is the lowest rank in WA, lower than that of Conscript. A Freeman cannot be promoted until he is an official member.

Division Leaders

Each Legion, or Division, organizes members of the Empire on any particular game WA has a presence in. The "Command Staff" consists of a Captain and Commander who work together to ensure the smooth functioning of their Division.

Captain (1 per Legion): Leader of a Division, in charge of recruitment, ensuring that peace is kept, monitoring activity, assigning Lieutenants, and promoting officers in his division. Captains should have weekly meetings or conversations with their Lieutenants and have them make a weekly report in order to see how well their platoon is doing. The Captain's duty is to handle the affairs of his own division so that the responsibility of discipline and control does not need to come from higher up, such as his Legate. This rank may kick or ban any unfriendly nonmember as well as any misbehaving member. This rank may promote/demote anyone up to/from the rank of Commander. A member may only be promoted to Lieutenant if the House or Houses which control the platoon have nominated them to the Captain. The Captain reserves the right to veto any of these nominations.

Commander (1 per Legion): The right-hand of the Captain, the Commander helps carry the load of the leadership. Whenever the Captain isn't around the Commander is acting leader of the Division; therefore the Commander must act as such from now on. A Commander's job is to make sure that the Division runs smoothly by working closely to ensure that the Lieutenants are communicating with all members of the command staff, especially the Captain on a weekly basis. Commanders are required to submit a bi-monthly report to be submitted to the Captain on the status of all the platoons, the platoon leadership, the completion of situation reports (and who filled them if at all), and include separate suggestions on how each platoon can be improved, how each Lieutenant can be helped, and how to better the division as a whole. This bi-monthly report is due every 1st and 16th of each month of the year. Further duties may be assigned as needed by the Captain. This rank may kick or ban any unfriendly non-member and kick or ban any misbehaving member. The Commander may promote/demote any rank up to/from the rank of Sub-Lieutenant so long as the Commander has consulted with the Captain and the respective Lieutenant before doing so.

Officers

These officers are Platoon-level officers. They represent the leadership of any given Platoon and work together to run a Platoon efficiently and properly. A Platoon is an organized unit under a Division based on House membership.

  • Lieutenant (1 per Platoon): The Leader of a Platoon, the Lieutenant teaches his platoon members what being a member of the Warriors of Æsir means. By example, he leads his Platoon and strives to turn every member of his Platoon into a potential officer some day. He fathers them and turns them to hardened, loyal members of the Empire. He should know and be close to all his members, and provide a friendly face of leadership, but be willing to make tough decisions for the good of the Empire. The Lieutenant should try to hold a weekly meeting with the all members of the Division Command Staff, especially the Captain. The Lieutenant will also meet with the Commander at least every two weeks in order to set goals for the platoon for the next to weeks. The Lieutenant is held responsible for the accomplishment of these goals and may request any help needed from the Division Command Staff. Each Lieutenant is responsible for a weekly Situation Report for their platoon that includes New Recruits, Promotions, Demotions, Returning Members, Transfers, General Welfare of the Platoon, and the current goal set forth by the Lieutenant working with the Commander. This rank may kick or ban any unfriendly non-member, as well as kick or ban any misbehaving member (banning is for more serious offences). This rank may promote and demote any member within his/her platoon up to the rank ofSub-Lieutenant. (If the Lieutenant is promoting or demoting a Sub-Lieutenant, the Captain must be consulted.

  • Sub-Lieutenant (1 per Platoon): Second in Command of a Platoon, the Sub-Lieutenant is the right-hand man of the Lieutenant. The Sub-Lieutenant 's job is to familiarize him/herself with all the members of the platoon and to coordinate the Hersirs in order to give close attention and training to all enlisted members of the platoon. The Sub-Lieutenant should work closely with the Lieutenant in order to see to it that the Lieutenant's plans and goals for the platoon are accomplished. The Sub-Lieutenant should keep a keen eye for members deserving promotions/demotions. TheSub-Lieutenant . is also the Acting Lt. whenever the Lt. is not around, so he/she must fulfill all the necessary roles and responsibilities of the Lieutenant when the Lieutenant is not around. The Sub-Lieutenant of a platoon must ensure that his/her platoon is running smoothly, and if it isn't, should discuss with the Lieutenant on ways they can improve their platoon. This rank may kick or ban any unfriendly non-member as well as kick and ban any misbehaving member (banning is for more serious offences). This rank may promote and demote any member in his/her platoon up to the rank of Centurion.

  • Hersir(2 per Platoon): A member of a Platoon who has proven himself invaluable. This rank is a stepping stone on which a member is given some power and a chance to prove himself to his superiors, and works closely with the Lieutenant and the Sub-Lieutenant. Hersirs will also now work closely with the Centurions, teaching them the ropes of officer-ship. They will ensure that the platoon is running smoothly, following protocol, rules, and all division regulations. They should be familiar with all members of the platoon and keep an open door to all members. Hersirs are allowed to promote their platoon members up to the rank of Inscriber so long as they have the permission of their respective Sub-Lieutenant, Lieutenant, or any Commanding Officer of the division (If you are a Hersir, discussing promotions should primarily be between you and your Sub-Lieutenant, and/or the Lieutenant. Hersirs should work with the Centurions in coordinating the events with the 1st Files of the platoon. Hersirs should report all new recruits, promotions, demotions, bans, etc. to their respective Lieutenant including their thoughts of the state of the platoon as well as thoughts on the state of the platoon that others have shared with them. This rank is on the edge of becoming a leader, and will either make you or break you. Hersirs may kick or ban any unfriendly non-member, and kick any member who is not following rules and protocal. Hersirs may promote any enlisted men in his/her platoon up to the rank of Inscriber so long as they have discussed this with a senior officer.

Enlisted (Non-Officers)

Enlisted, non-commissioned members of a Platoon provide basic duties within a Platoon and strive to show their worth and attain the honor of becoming an officer of the Empire. For a Conscript to rise any higher, he must display understanding of protocol and have a decent level of activity. Members who cannot abide by protocol or otherwise cannot be promoted yet should remain at Conscript level until they display a willingness to truly become a Warrior of Æsir.

  • Centurion (1 per Platoon):The senior non-commissioned officer of a platoon, the Centurion makes sure the other non-commissioned officers stay in line and works to prove his worth as a a future officer. The Centurion should organize platoon events/games to welcome enlisted and create more united friendly platoon environments. Working with the Hersirs, the Centurion should try to bridge the gap between the enlisted and the officers. This Senior non-commissioned officer of the platoon should be a big brother or sister to younger members, teaching the ropes of the clan to newer members. The Centurion can organize events, however if the Hersir he is working with to coordinate can disapprove of the event. But the Centurion is able to appeal to the Lieutenant or Sub-Lieutenant of the platoon so that the platoon event/game can be sanctioned and made official. As the Centurion, he/she should have spot on protocol, be a consistent rule follower, and understand the structure of the clan. The Centurion should also be active on the forums.

  • Inscriber (Unlimited): A high-level non-commissioned officer, Inscriber should assist the Centurion coordinating and organizing platoon events and games. They should be nice, friendly, and looking to assist all lower ranking members in order get them the attention/training they need. However they also have a very specific and special duty. Each inscriber is tasked with writing or organization historical information about their Legion. They are the junior historians whose small contributions add up to a rich and informed tapestry. They should attempt to contact the clan's Skald (a member of the Huskarls) who will work with them to make sure they succeed in their contribution.

  • Legionary, 1st Spear (Unlimited): Now that you are a Non-Commissioned Officer, look to help out the Centurions in any way possible. Work on using protocol flawlessly, and help out new recruits. You are expected to post on the forums and keep up with current events and news of the clan. Your primary focus should be on recruiting new members. Unburdened with the responsibilities that some of the ranks ahead of you must take care of, yet a non-commissioned officer who should be a senior enough member who understands the structure and philosophy of this clan, you should be an expert in the recruiting process.

  • Legionary, 2nd Spear (Unlimited): Your job is to monitor the 3rd Spears and the Conscripts lend them help where they need it but also tell them when they are behaving in a manner unbecoming of a member of the Empire. The better they do because of you, the better your hopes of gaining a rank. You should continue following protocol, and using the forums. Now that you are allowed to recruit on your own, go forth and recruit! Make sure you recruit properly, and if you still aren't sure how to, ask for help.

  • Legionary, 3rd Spear (Unlimited): Either a well proven Conscript, or a recruit from a game. An officer recruiting a member may place a new Imperial recruit into this rank, the highest one can start as. You have been chosen by the leaders of the Empire, at this point all you need to worry about is following the rules, displaying knowledge of protocol, and being a good active member and you'll be promoted in no time.

  • Conscript (Unlimited): You're now an official member of the Empire. You are at the bottom of the totem pole, but fear not: if you listen and act well, remember protocol and show you are willing to follow the rules, you shall soon leave this rank behind and perhaps if you keep it up will some day be an officer.
